Google Business Profile verification: prepare the right evidence

Prepare for the verification method Google offers, separate verification from ownership problems and keep access and business details ready.

Check that verification is the task you need

Verification helps Google confirm that an authorised person represents the business. It is different from recovering a lost Google account, transferring ownership from an old agency or resolving two listings for one operation. Start with the existing profile and identify the message it shows. Creating a second profile to avoid an access problem can make the situation more complicated.

Make sure you are signed in to the intended business-controlled Google account and that you are working on the correct listing. Keep the name, location, phone and website accurate. If another person already owns the verified profile, use the access process first. A website supplier can help prepare the information, but cannot simply bypass ownership checks or guarantee approval.

Use the method Google makes available

Google determines the available verification methods. The options can differ between businesses, and more than one method may be required. Do not assume that a phone code, postcard or a particular video option will be available because another owner used it. Follow the instructions displayed on your own profile and keep the responsible person available to complete the required action.

If a method requires access to a business phone, email or premises, arrange that before starting. A supplier may be able to organise the steps remotely, but some evidence must come from someone genuinely authorised and present at the business. Keep verification codes under the business’s control and use official Google screens rather than handing a code to an unsolicited caller.

Prepare before starting verification
  1. Check the listing

Confirm the account, business identity and correct existing profile.

  2. Read the offered method

Use the actual instructions rather than another business’s example.

  3. Arrange evidence

Have the authorised person and relevant business access ready.

  4. Review the outcome

Keep the confirmation or respond to the stated next step.

Make evidence clear and relevant to the business

For a video-based check, Google may ask for evidence of the location, business activity and your authority to manage it. Read the current instructions before recording. Plan a clear route through the permitted evidence so the footage tells a coherent story rather than a set of unrelated close-ups. A mobile business may show different relevant equipment and management evidence from a public storefront.

Do not fabricate signs, rent a temporary address or display material that misrepresents the operation. Keep customers, private documents and unnecessary personal information out of the recording. Prepare ordinary business evidence that genuinely exists. If the business operates from home, check the service-area rules and address-display setup instead of assuming a public home address is required.

Keep a record while the review is pending

Record when verification was submitted and what the profile says afterwards. Avoid repeatedly restarting the process without understanding the current status. If the method includes specific restrictions on editing business details or requesting another code, follow them. Inconsistent names and location changes during an active process can turn a straightforward task into a harder support conversation.

Use the official help route if the available method cannot be completed or the profile asks for further action. Keep the same factual explanation and relevant reference details together. Verification timing varies, so do not promise a website client that Google approval will happen on launch day. The site and other access preparation can progress while the profile’s status is checked.

  • Record the account, profile link and verification status.
  • Read method-specific instructions before collecting evidence.
  • Keep codes and sensitive evidence within authorised channels.
  • Save confirmation and support correspondence.

Finish with public information and durable access

After verification, review the public phone number, website link, hours and address or service area. Test the path a customer uses to contact the business. Confirm who controls ownership and which people need manager access. Verification solves a particular platform check; it does not replace ongoing responsibility for accurate public information.

My Business Profile setup and management work can include preparation, information checks and guidance through the steps Google offers. Some actions will still require the owner’s participation. The useful outcome is a profile that represents the real business, stays under appropriate control and sends customers to the correct next step—not a promise of a ranking or instant approval.
