SEO for lawyers: organise practice areas around real client questions
Plan law firm service pages, lawyer profiles and useful guides around practice areas, jurisdictions and a clear first-enquiry process.

Map practice areas before choosing legal keywords
A law firm website should help a prospective client find the right practice area and understand whether the firm handles their type of matter. Start with the work the firm accepts, the jurisdictions it serves and the lawyers available for that work. A search phrase with substantial demand may still be a poor fit if it brings matters outside that scope.
Group related questions around the service a person may need. An enquiry about preparing a will follows a different path from an enquiry about a commercial dispute. Avoid making a separate page for every minor wording variation. A clear practice-area structure gives the firm a manageable set of pages to review and keep accurate.
Explain the first contact and assessment process
A useful practice-area page explains the kinds of matters handled, the relevant team and how to ask for an initial discussion. Set expectations about what happens after a prospective client makes contact. Describe consultation and fee arrangements only as the firm has approved them; do not imply that submitting a website form establishes an engagement or guarantees that a matter will be accepted.
Keep initial forms focused on routing the enquiry. Ask the firm to decide what information is appropriate at this stage and how confidential material should be collected. A marketing form does not need a full case history or an unrestricted document upload to help reception direct someone to the right person.
- State the practice area and relevant service jurisdiction clearly.
- Link to accurate profiles of the lawyers doing the work.
- Explain the initial discussion and engagement-confirmation steps.
- Use a firm-approved process for confidential documents and details.
- Practice area
Describe the legal work the firm actually handles.
- Relevant information
State the jurisdiction, process and suitably reviewed general information.
- Initial contact
Explain how to enquire and what the firm needs to assess suitability.
General website information is not advice about an individual legal matter.
Use legal guides to prepare readers, with practitioner review
Guides can answer practical preparation questions, such as what to ask before engaging a solicitor or how the firm's initial meeting works. Link them to the relevant practice-area page so a reader can move from general information to an appropriate enquiry. Keep general explanations separate from advice on an individual person's circumstances.
Have a suitably qualified lawyer review legal statements, jurisdiction references and time-sensitive information before publication. Keep an editorial review record and revisit material when it changes. Do not invent successful matters, client quotations or claims of specialist status to make a page appear more persuasive. Firm approval is part of the content workflow, not a step to leave until after publication.
Represent offices and remote consultations accurately
Explain where clients can actually meet the team and whether consultations are available remotely. If the firm has several genuine offices, each location should offer useful information about the team, contact arrangements and services available there. Repeating one page under several city names does not explain those differences.
Keep eligible Google Business Profile details consistent with the website and controlled by the firm. Check the phone and appointment links from the public listing. A profile and a practice-area page should agree about which business is being contacted, rather than sending a visitor through an unrelated lead-generation brand.
Review qualified matters rather than raw form totals
Compare the searches that bring visitors with the practice areas requested in genuine enquiries. Record broad outcomes such as suitable enquiry, outside scope or engagement agreed, using the firm's approved information-handling process. A download, phone-button click or submitted form does not by itself represent an accepted matter.
Choose the next SEO task from a real problem: a missing practice-area explanation, a broken contact link or a repeated question the team can answer publicly. My SEO consulting service can help organise and implement the website work. It does not replace professional review, and search positions or enquiry volumes are not guaranteed.
